New Facility

The Gwinnett County Animal Shelter staff is excited about the shelter's new home. The new facility is located next to a lake and dense forest area that will be used to walk and exercise the facillities animals. The County opened the new facility in September 2007.

The new facility is 33,000 square feet compared to the 14,000 square feet at the current location. It includes room for the police K-9 unit, a barn for any livestock found to be mistreated or neglected and surgical facilities to allow the spaying and neutering of animals before adoption. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology and the latest in animal care, the shelter features isolated sectional living areas for the animals. This means that each section will have its own ventilation system and water, thereby decreasing the possibility of cross-contamination and increasing the health prospects of our animals.

The Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center at 884 Winder Highway is open from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
