History:
The Countywide program was implemented in May 2000. Each
student is matched to a mentor within the area of relevant study.
The program is designed to provide students with a broad view of
local government and aid them in realistically assessing their future
career decisions. Gwinnett County has over 4,500 authorized full and part-time positions to serve our citizens. Select the link "About Gwinnett" at the top of the page if you would like general information

Purpose:
The Apprenticeship program is geared to enhance high school
coursework and assist in preparing students for future career goals.
The purpose of the Internship program is to provide highly motivated
college students currently seeking a bachelor's degree or higher with
challenging and meaningful employment that will benefit both the
County and the student. Gwinnett County strives to ensure all
students have an engaging and rewarding experience.
Goals:
1) To provide on-the-job learning not obtainable in a classroom.
2) To apply classroom theories into work experiences.
3) To give an opportunity for a realistic evaluation of career choices.
4) To identify possible full-time employees.
Results:
Since the program inception, several interns have been hired into
full-time positions or been invited by various departments to work
beyond their internship sessions through departmental funding.
