The Field Operations division includes: Water Distribution, Waste Water Collections, Sanitary Sewer Evaluations, Meter Services, Backflow Prevention compliance and inspections, and Dispatch. This division fosters cooperative working relationships among DWR departments, intergovernmental and regulatory agencies, and various public and private groups. The Field Operations division employs approximately 145 full-time employees that provide water and sewer services to approximately 240,000+ customer accounts. This division is also responsible for responding to 24-hour, 7-day emergency on-call duty for dispatch, water, sewer, and meter services.

 

The distribution system contains 3,400+ miles of water distribution main line. The main lines range in size from 2” – 72”. The Distribution work group is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of all water mains, service lines, valves, and fire hydrants.

 

The collections system contains 2,800+ miles of sewer main line including force mains. The Collections work group is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of all sewer mains, sewer manholes, 24-hour response to sewer overflows and back-ups, air relief valves, tap/stub location and installation, TV Inspections of newly developed projects and existing lines, force mains, and easement encroachment investigations.

 

The Sanitary Sewer Evaluations work group (SSES) is responsible for the reduction or elimination of inflow and infiltration into the sanitary sewer system, sewer rehabilitation projects, flow management, and providing asset management information on the collections system. This work group also includes a team of FOG (Fats, Oils, and Grease) employees that are responsible for the public education and prevention to keep fats, oils, and grease out of the sanitary sewer system.

 

The Meter Services work group is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of water service lines and water meters. This workgroup also includes a workgroup called Meter Repair. Meter repair work group members repair, install, and maintain all of the water meters in Gwinnett County from sizes ¾” – 8” water meters. The Backflow Prevention work group is responsible for the installation and inspection of backflow devices

 

The Dispatch work group is responsible for all incoming calls related to water, sewer, and storm water emergencies. The Dispatch work group provides 24- hour, 7-day emergency phone call coverage for the Water Resources customers.
