Mission Statement
The Gwinnett County Police Departments evidence unit receives and stores evidentiary, found, and abandoned property. The unit is responsible for returning evidence to the rightful owners when possible. Any evidence that has not been picked up in a timely matter or is no longer needed by the courts is destroyed or auctioned off.

Hours of Operation
The evidence unit is open to the general public for business Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The evidence unit is closed on Saturdays, Sundays and most holidays. You must schedule an appointment with the evidence unit prior to picking up any property. The evidence unit’s phone number is 770.513.5260.

The evidence unit will usually require 24 hours advance notice for picking up any property. Appointments are necessary due to the volume of property being released and the storage location of property. Appointments are scheduled for Monday afternoon, Tuesday morning, Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. Appointment days and times are subject to change based on the availability of the unit. Valid ID is required for all appointments.

Directions
Gwinnett County's evidence unit is located in the Gwinnett County Police Headquarters' building at 770 Hi Hope Rd. From Hwy 316 eastbound, turn left onto Hi Hope Rd. The building is then the third building down on the left hand side.

How to pick up property
Found property – Any found property listed on our website will require proof of ownership to be claimed. You must contact the evidence unit about what types of proof is required. Found property will be held for 90 days from the date it was received. After 90 days the property will be disposed or auctioned pursuant to Georgia Law.

Safekeeping Property – Any safekeeping property received from an officer will be held for 90 days. All safekeeping property will require a written release from either an officer or the District Attorneys office. After 90 days the property will be destroyed or auctioned pursuant to Georgia Law

Evidence Property – Any evidence held by the unit will require a written release to be returned to the owner. This release must come from the District Attorneys office or Gwinnett County officers and/or detectives. The owners of this property must contact the officer or DA’s office directly in order to get a written release.

After the required time period that property is held has passed, the evidence unit may auction this property to the highest bidder. Gwinnett County Police sells the property online at www.propertyroom.com, an auction site specializing in property from police agencies across the country. Citizens can also register any stolen property at this website and if any property matches it will be returned to the rightful owner.
