Important Construction Traffic Notice

Please be advised that heavy construction traffic is expected on Tom Smith Road between 11 p.m. Friday, September 7th and 7 p.m. Saturday, September 8th. A concrete pour at the Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility will be performed requiring approximately 30 concrete trucks per hour to enter and exit the plant located at 858 Tom Smith Road . Police officers will be stationed at the entrance to the plant, and at the intersection of Tom Smith Road and Five Forks Trickum to ensure public safety during the increased traffic congestion. For more information, contact Ken Fraker at 678-318-2404 or Kenneth.Fraker@gwinnettcounty.com.

Important Update - Work to Begin Soon on Realigning Yellow River WRF Entrance Road

Preparations are beginning for the realignment of the entrance road to the Yellow River WRF off Tom Smith Road. Drivers along the roadway and residents in the area will soon see trees being cleared to accommodate the shift of the entrance from its current location to an alignment across from the entrance to St. John Neumann Catholic Church.

The move is necessary to enhance safety. The current entrance is located near a curve in Tom Smith Road that reduces visibility for employees, contractors, and visitors to the Yellow River WRF. Standing water and flooding of the entrance has also been an issue during periods of heavy rain.

Tree removal is expected to begin during June, and construction of the entrance road is anticipated to be complete by the time school begins in late summer. All Gwinnett County policies governing road construction will be followed, and any impacts to traffic along Tom Smith Road will be governed by proper safety procedures and notification.

Pedestrian Traffic along Yellow River WRF Entry Road

As indicated during community meetings about the Yellow River WRF modernization project, the entry road to the plant is being closed to all pedestrian traffic. The safety of our neighbors is of utmost importance, and the addition of construction traffic to the entry road can mean danger for those traveling by bicycle or on foot.

We are working on developing a permanent walking trail on the Plant site, and are excited about offering this amenity to the Yellow River community. A local Boy Scout troop has been enlisted as a partner to help us complete the trail, and we will keep you posted on our progress.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding as we continue to improve the Yellow River WRF!
