
Gwinnett is the largest fire service district in the State of Georgia for the number of legal jurisdictions (15) under one fire department, and protects a population of over 800,000 people covering an area of 437 square miles. Responding to over 70,000 calls for help annually, the department currently operates 28 strategically located fire stations, 28 engine companies, 8 ladder trucks, 22 advanced life support medical units, plus specialty units. In 2009 the Department will add Stations 29 and 30 plus another two new stations that will replace older, existing stations.
Serving this area with fire protection and emergency medical services is the mission of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services. The department meets its challenge with a force of 793 superbly trained men and women who are proactive in their approach to the challenges and citizen-oriented in their focus.
Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services has a history of excellence in all areas of service. The department has designed its divisions and strategically placed its stations to facilitate excellent responses to community needs. The three Department Divisions are Business Services, Employee Support and Initiatives, and Operations.
The department's future growth will be fueled by the increasing needs of a growing population. We plan to continue to add stations, apparatus, and personnel in order to keep improving response times while delivering needed services to all areas of Gwinnett. We will accomplish this with an increasingly diverse work force that will continue to have the opportunity to receive the most up-to-date emergency response training in order to routinely deliver life-saving care to anyone in need.
Whether it's fighting fire or investigating their cause, administering emergency medical services, teaching prevention strategies, or inspecting new structures for code compliance, Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel work diligently to serve the residents of Gwinnett County.
