The Buford Human Services Center (BHSC) is a "one-stop" integrated center, offering a wide array of health and human services, and providing programs to area seniors.

The Center partners with other governmental and outside nonprofit agencies to bring programs that benefit the community and clients of the service agencies.

A conference room is available for approved nonprofit and human services organizations to conduct programs that would benefit the community.

Heating Assistance for Seniors
Home Heating Assistance • Tuesday and Friday
November 3, 2009 - April 2010 from 9:00am – 4:00pm. Applications for senior citizens, the disabled and the homebound will be taken through November 30; all others who are income eligible will be scheduled from December 1 until funds are exhausted. To qualify as a senior, everyone in the household must be 65 years old or have youth in the household under 18 years. For the disabled, it would be anyone in a wheelchair or using a walker, cane, breathing device or legally blind. For the homebound, it would be a person who has had surgery, is too ill or infirmed to come to the office, or the extreme elderly. Call Partnership for Community Action to schedule your required appointment at the Buford Senior Center by dialing 404.929.2451/52 . Applicants must bring proof of income for all household members 18 years or older for the last 30 days (if irregular income, then 90 days proof of income); most recent home heating bill; picture ID for applicant; proof of Social Security numbers for all household members (either a Social Security card or other legal documents showing the number. No handwritten social security numbers will be accepted.). Household income criteria are as follows:

Buford - Calendar of Events
Gamblers Anonymous . Wednesdays
6:30pm – 8:30pm. The program is free for adults. Call the Buford Human Services Center at 770.614.2526 for more information.
 
G.I.R.L.S. · Thursdays – FREE!
6:45pm – 8:15pm. Gaining Insight and Real Life Skills. This is a leadership program for girls from ages 6 – 10 years. An 8-month enrichment program designed to increase self-esteem and develop leadership skills. Features bi-weekly workshops, mentoring, and community service from September 2009 until April 2010. Available for ages 6-10 and 15-18 at different locations.  All age groups will combine to participate in community service and special events. Over 24 meeting dates and opportunities for building confidence, respect, esteem, and much more – less than $10 per meeting and Sliding fee scale pricing is available for those who require tuition assistance.  Additional discounts for returning Participant; and 25% discount for 2nd and 3rd child within same household.  Orientation will be on Saturday, Saturday September 12, 2009. The first session will be at the Buford Human Services Center on Thursday, September 17, 2009 and will meet every other Thursday. Girls will learn self esteem, leadership, and financial skills and much more. Project Safe Place
The Buford Human Services Center is a registered Safe Place location for children and teens who feel they are being threatened by a stranger, being picked on by bigger and older kids, and for latchkey kids who have lost their keys. Safe Place is also for run away teens or those that have been kicked out of homes, youth with friends who are drinking and driving, teens experiencing a family crisis / breakdown in communication, or for children from neglectful or abusive homes. Yoga . Wednesdays
4:30pm – 6:00pm at the Buford Human Services Center. This class includes stretching, flex and strength training. Please call  210.615.8164 to reserve your space in the class. Cost for each class is $5.
