In most cases, attaching files to an item enhances the display or presentation of the item on your site. For example, attaching an image file to a product content item lets you display that image of the product on your site. In certain cases, such as creating template and script content items, or editorials based on a file in your system, the appropriate template, script, or editorial text file must be attached to the respective template, script, or editorial content item. A file can be attached to a content item from any Full or Instant Publisher Form that displays the button Save and Attach Files.
When you attach a file to a content item, the application Publishing Center automatically saves the item, and copies the file from your client machine to a subdirectory of the document root directory on the server. BroadVision One-To-One Enterprise can then access the file on the server, and display it on your site as part of the content item display, or use it to identify a template, script, editorial file, or external URL. If the file to be attached is located on a co-worker's client machine, the content item must be assigned to that person so that they can attach the file, which copies it from their client to the server. "Setting workflow states and assigning content" explains how to assign a content item.
Before attaching a file, enter at least the required values for attributes for the content item. If you are attaching an image file, be sure that you enter the Image Height and Width measurements. These measurements determine the size of the displayed image on your site, and allow the browser to load the text without waiting for the image to load. When you are ready to attach the file, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the button Save and Attach Files to open the screen Upload File.
