Official Business Meetings Official business meetings of the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners are scheduled on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. However, the Board may reschedule a meeting with proper notice, if necessary, due to holidays or other reasons. The Work Session is scheduled at 10:00am and the Business Session is held at 2:00pm. Both meetings are conducted in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (GJAC). During the morning session, the Board creates the Consent Agenda. If all members are in accord with a particular item on the agenda, that item moves to the Consent Agenda, which is adopted in its entirety by one vote in the afternoon. Use of the Consent Agenda allows the Board to conduct its Business Session more efficiently. If in the morning session a Board member requests additional information on an item or wishes to vote against the item, it is put under discussion and will be voted on separately during the afternoon Business Session. Both sessions are open to the public. In accordance with the Open Meetings Act, proper public notice of each meeting is made through public posting of the time and place. The local media is notified of each meeting. Meetings are seldom scheduled on the second Tuesday of each month. Public Hearings The Board of Commissioners meets in a regularly scheduled Public Hearing the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm in the GJAC auditorium. At these meetings, the Board primarily considers land use issues (rezonings, variances, etc.). Throughout the year, the Board may also hold additional public hearings. Some hearings are required by law. Others may be called by the Board to gather facts or to sample public opinion. These public hearings also require proper public notification. Informal Work Sessions and Briefings The Board of Commissioners frequently meets on the first, third, and fourth Tuesdays in informal work sessions and briefings. These open meetings are held as issues or events dictate, giving the Commission an opportunity to review and discuss any issues which impact the County and/or may need official activity at a later date. No voting can take place in the informal work session. The meetings are held in the auditorium of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (GJAC). The meetings are open to the public, and time and place are properly posted. Site visits, facility groundbreakings, dedications, and other special events may be scheduled at other times, if necessary. Executive Sessions Meetings which are closed to the public generally are referred to as Executive Sessions. Under the Open Meetings Act, closed meetings may be held specifically for: - Discussion of, or deliberation upon appointment, employment, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action, or dismissal or performance of a public officer or employee; however, the vote on such personnel matters shall be taken in public
- Discussion of the future acquisition of real estate; and/or
