Mission

The District Attorney's office represents the State of Georgia in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit as mandated by the Constitution of this state and numerous statutes of the Official Code of Georgia. This includes both criminal and civil court appearances, as the law directs. The District Attorney is a state official elected by the citizens of Gwinnett County.


Synopsis

This District Attorney's office is composed of the following divisions: Trial, Investigation, Administrative, and Victim Witness. The office provides the following:

  • Trial (Stage 1): Attorneys that represent the State of Georgia in felony criminal prosecutions. Thisstage of the case involves the investigation of cases and preparation of cases for presentation to the Grand Jury
  • Trial (Stage 2): Attorneys that represent the State of Georgia in felony criminal prosecutions. This stage of the case involves the preparation of cases for appearance in court to present evidence and to argue legal issues on behalf of the state
  • Investigation: The function of an Investigator is to assist in the preparation and presentation of criminal cases which requires the gathering of facts, interviewing witnesses, location of evidence, and analysis of strengths and weaknesses of cases
  • Administration: This division contains the clerical support staff serving the District Attorney's office. They are responsible for the preparation of court calendars, which includes notification of and coordination of parties to court. They also attend court to assist the attorneys with necessary documentation and preparation of appropriate paperwork
  • Victim Witness Program: This division provides victim services mandated by state law, assists victims in completing victim impact statements and filing for crime victim's compensation, provides courtroom escorts during judicial proceedings, as well as providing victims information pertaining to additional support from our County's numerous resource/support agencies

Goals
  • Represent the people of the State of Georgia in the prosecution of felony warrants
  • Assist all persons who fall victim to felony crimes that occur in Gwinnett County
  • Prosecute delinquent cases in Juvenile Court

Major Issues
  • Our goal is to maintain current service levels with current funds in the face of an increasing and varied caseload. In addition to the standing case load we have been able to use existing resources to concentrate expertise in the areas of drug enforcement, child abuse/child molestation, white collar crime, environmental crime, and juvenile crime

    This office continues to explore and implement new strategies to handle the work load in the most fiscally responsible manner in order to provide services to the taxpayers of Gwinnett County at the least cost.

Danny's career with the Gwinnett County District Attorney's office began in September 1981, immediately upon graduation from the University of Georgia School of Law. He served as a Trial Assistant for three years and was then promoted to Senior Assistant District Attorney. Subsequently, he was assigned as head of the Trial Division of the D.A. office supervising trial attorneys. Danny also assumed the additional duties of the Drug Prosecutor and began the organization of a special drug prosecution unit. Danny was elected District Attorney of Gwinnett County in November 1992.
