The Planning Division is responsible for zoning administration in the unincorporated areas of Gwinnett County. The Gwinnett County Zoning Resolution is the main instrument used by the Planning Division to regulate development in the county. The Zoning Resolution regulates the size and height of buildings, housing units and lots, as well as specific types of uses permitted in the various zoning districts within the unincorporated areas of the county. The Planning Division also provides staff support for the Municipal-Gwinnett County Planning Commission. The Municipal-Gwinnett County Planning Commission is a committee of nine residents appointed by the Board of Commissioners to review matters such as rezonings, Special Use Permits, Moved-in-House applications, Buffer Reduction requests, site plans, Zoning Resolution amendments, land use plan amendments and other current and long-range planning projects.
