After two years of successful performance as an officer you will be eligible for transfer to one of the following units:

Special Enforcement
- The Specialized Enforcement Section is made up of the following units: Accident Investigation, DUI Task Force, Motorcycle, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, and Tele-Serve.

Tactical Operations - The Tactical Operations Section is made up of the following units: K9, Crime Suppression/Gang, Park Police, Solid Waste Enforcement, and Crime Prevention.

Criminal Investigations - Responsible for criminal investigations including violent and property crimes, child protection, white collar crime, and auto theft. Special Investigations includes the vice squad, alcohol enforcement, the permit unit, and the narcotics squad.

Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) - In the last five years, the Gwinnett SWAT team has placed in the top 10 at the international SWAT Roundup Competition in Orlando, Florida. All team members have other full-time duties within the Police Department when not on SWAT calls or in training.

Aviation - Provides direct support to the Uniform Division and general support to other divisions and County government using two MD 500 E helicopters.
