The Gwinnett Animal Advisory Council (GAAC) was established in 1993 by resolution, revised July 2002 and December 11, 2012. The Council shall be an advisory council for the purpose of studying, making recommendations and offering professional advice to the Board of Commissioners on animal welfare and other animal-related issues in Gwinnett County.  The Council shall be composed of seven (7) members, as follows:

  • The Chairman and the members of the Board of Commissioners shall each have one (1) appointment;
  • One member shall represent the Gwinnett Municipal Association; and
  • One member shall represent the Gwinnett County Board of HealthMembers are not compensated.

Meetings

The Gwinnett Animal Advisory Council shall meet regularly once per quarter-year.  Special meetings may be called by the Chairperson or by a majority vote of the Gwinnett Animal Advisory Council

Qualifications

Members must be residents of Gwinnett County


Responsibilities / Powers

  • To provide a channel for dialogue between citizens and the Board of Commissioners.
  • To bring about cooperation and coordination of resources to maximize animal welfare.
  • The exclusive authority of the GAAC is to gather information and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners and the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Unit.
