Operations Maintenance and Planning is responsible for the following:

Operations and Maintenance
Traffic Operations and Maintenance is responsible for maintaining existing County roads, sidewalks, bridges, and surface vegetation within the rights of way. In addition, the division reconstructs existing roads and builds miscellaneous road projects. The division also coordinates, tests and oversees several million dollars' worth of annual contracted work. The division is also responsible for promoting safe traffic conditions in the County by installing and maintaining traffic control signing, pavement markings, and coordinating road closures; reviewing new developments for traffic impact, and proposing traffic plans to alleviate congestion and dangerous traffic situations.

Traffic Engineering and Planning
Traffic Engineering and Planning responsibilities include ensuring a safe and efficient transportation system for Gwinnett County by directing and coordinating all aspects of development and maintenance of short, intermediate and long-range transportation plans for the county. The division also monitors existing conditions, maintains traffic volume and traffic accident data bases, including analyses, reports and recommendations for corrective measures. It is also responsible for developing and managing a residential speed control program. The division maintains over 640 signals, 170 flashers, over 60 miles of fiber optic communications cable, 50 CCTV cameras and the operation of the new Traffic Control Center.
