Three firms respond to Briscoe Field RFQ

Gwinnett County has received three responses to its Request for Qualifications for firms interested in submitting a proposal to privatize the Gwinnett County airport, Briscoe Field. The sealed RFQ responses were opened on August 16, 2010, and the three respondents are: Propeller Airports Briscoe Field, Inc., American Airports Corporation, and Gwinnett Airport, LLC.

A committee made up of County staff will now evaluate the three submissions and potentially select a "short list" of firms from which to request specific proposals.

There will be extensive opportunities for public input and comment when there are specific proposals to discuss, which may not be for several months.

The Board of Commissioners initiated this process because of the potential economic benefits of privatization to Gwinnett County residents and taxpayers. The evaluation and public input processes we anticipate will carefully study all impacts, both positive and negative, of any future airport privatization proposal that seems worthy of public consideration.

The County is not committed to proceed with privatization and there are no proposals on the table for discussion at this time. County officials will continue to pursue a deliberate and thoughtful process to develop and present to Gwinnett residents a specific plan with significant benefits.
