Gwinnett wins environmental awards

County’s sustainability efforts earned certification at the Gold level in the
Atlanta Regional Commission’s Green Communities program – the first
county to achieve that distinction. Read

Since 2009, 18 jurisdictions in the 10-county region have been certified as Green Communities. Cities and counties earn certification by implementing practices and policies in 10 categories ranging from energy efficiency and green building to transportation and water efficiency. The ARC program was the first in the U.S. to transform a region by promoting sustainability through green certification. More recent environmental awards came from Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful as the non-profit agency celebrated its 35th birthday. The County won the Green Government of the Decade award and Sheriff Butch Conway won Volunteer of the Decade.
