Expensive F-150 Theft Ring Investigation

(Lawrenceville, Georgia) On August 19, 2015 the Gwinnett County Motor Vehicle Theft Unit received information from the Peachtree Corners tag office regarding an attempted registration of a Ford F-150.  The registration attempt was done by using a fraudulent South Carolina title. On August 20, 2015 the truck was recovered in Gwinnett County. Upon inspection, the truck was identified as a stolen 2012 F-150 Platinum from a dealership in North Carolina. The truck had fake federal stickers and VIN’s in place of the one installed from the factory. The victim in this case said he met the suspect at 3506 Buford Highway in Brookhaven and paid $8,000 cash for the truck.

On August 27, 2015 the Gwinnett County Motor Vehicle Theft Unit received information from the Indian Trail tag office of another fraudulent South Carolina title being presented for a Ford F-150. This title had several similarities as the first title that was presented at Peachtree Corners on August 19, 2015.  Detectives were able to meet with the subject attempting to register the truck at the tag office. The subject cooperated with police and escorted officers to the truck.  Upon inspection of the F-150 it was determined to be a stolen 2013 F-150 Lariat from Five Star Ford in Snellville, Georgia (Gwinnett County).   The truck had fake federal stickers and VIN’s in place of the one installed from the factory. The victim in this case said he met the suspect at 3506 Buford Highway in Brookhaven and paid $9,500 cash for the truck.

On September 01, 2015 the Gwinnett County Motor Vehicle Theft Unit received information from Peachtree Corners tag office regarding another fraudulent South Carolina title being presented for a 2013 F-150.  Detectives spoke with the subject attempting the registration at the tag office and then followed him to the truck.   Upon inspection, the truck was identified as a 2013 F-150 Platinum stolen from a dealership in North Carolina.  The victim in this case said he paid $9,500 cash for the truck.

In all three cases the subjects were Hispanic males and they all paid cash for the trucks.  All three of the fraudulent South Carolina titles showed the seller as Melissa Scott and had several other similarities.  All three victims in this case described the person that sold them the truck as a light skinned black female in her thirties.  In the most recent case, the victim took a picture of the female that sold him the truck.  There is still one truck (white F-150 Platinum) missing from a dealership in Gwinnett County. The trucks in question retail brand new between $45,000 and $60,000. Police are calling the female displayed below a person of interest. It is possible that she is of Dominican descent.
