Hit and Run Pedestrian Fatality

(Norcross, Georgia)  On Tuesday, October 6, at around 10:15pm, officers assigned to the West Precinct were dispatched to a pedestrian accident at the intersection of South Norcross Tucker Road and Graves Road.  The pedestrian died as a result of her injuries.  The driver who struck the pedestrian fled the scene. 

A detective assigned to the Accident Investigation Unit determined the following:

The pedestrian was crossing South Norcross Tucker Road going east in the crosswalk.  The “Don’t Walk” light was illuminated.  The driver of the vehicle was traveling north on South Norcross Tucker Road.  As the driver was approaching the intersection, he/she accelerated to pass through a yellow light. The vehicle and pedestrian collided.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without attempting to render aid to the victim. 

Notification has been made to the pedestrian’s next-of-kin.  The victim has been identified as Amber Harding, age 28, of Tucker. 

The lead investigator has been able to determine that the hit and run vehicle is a gold Honda Civic 4-Door VTEC.  The vehicle has gold or yellow headlights and chrome rims.  The vehicle is lowered to the ground and has tinted windows.  The vehicle may have damage to the front bumper, hood, and windshield.

OCGA 40-6-91 Right of Way in Crosswalks (abbreviated)

No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close that it is impractical for the driver to yield.

OCGA 40-6-270 Hit and Run (abbreviated)

The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or the death of any person or in damage to a vehicle which is driven or attended by any person shall immediately stop such vehicle at the scene of the accident and shall:
Give his or her name and address and the registration number of the vehicle he or she is driving; and where a person injured in such accident is unconscious, appears deceased, or is otherwise unable to communicate, make every reasonable effort to ensure that emergency medical services and local law enforcement are contacted for the purpose of reporting the accident and making a request for assistance.
