Update #1, 10/06/2015:After this story was featured by several media outlets, the lead investigator in this case received multiple tips identifying the suspect in the robbery of the Citgo from September 24. On October 5, at around 6:15pm, members of the Robbery Unit along with several uniform officers located the suspect and another male (unrelated to the robbery) inside a silver passenger vehicle at the Buford Housing Authority on Circle View Drive.

The driver and passenger left in the vehicle. Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the driver, but he fled at a high rate of speed. In an attempt to elude the officers, the driver committed several traffic violations. The driver, Gregory Randel Phillips – age 23, and the passenger eventually stopped the vehicle and fled into the wooded area behind a warehouse on Atwater Court in Buford. Shortly before the K9 was to be deployed, Phillips and the passenger, David C. Lynn – age 21, were taken into custody.

Phillips was placed under arrest for Robbery and Simple Battery. He was also charged with Fleeing or Attempting to Elude and Reckless Driving for yesterday’s event. He is currently at the Gwinnett County Jail. (Please contact the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office for booking information.) Lynn was placed under arrest for outstanding warrants and transported to the Gwinnett County Jail. At this time, investigators do not believe Lynn has any involvement in the robbery.

Original, 09/29/2015: (Buford, Georgia) On Thursday, September 24, shortly after 7am, officers assigned to the North Precinct were dispatched to a robbery call at the Citgo gas station located at 4131 Hamilton Mill Road in Buford. When the officers arrived, they met with the owner of the store who provided details about the incident. The store owner said that the suspect initially walked into the store and went into the restroom for a few minutes. As the owner was sitting behind the counter, the suspect (now donning a black mask and gloves) approached him from the left side and demanded that he give him all the money from the cash register. The owner opened the cash register for the suspect who stole the cash from inside. The suspect also reached up and stole a few packs of cigarettes. He is last seen walking out the front door. The store owner did not see any weapons.

Height: 5-08 to 5-11
Weight: 150-170 lbs.
Clothing: black t-shirt, black shorts, black Adidas sneakers, black socks pulled ¾ over his calf
