Update #1, 11/24/2015, 12:20pm: (Snellville, Georgia)  At around 8:30am, an Uber driver called the Gwinnett County Police Department 911 Center but did not engage in a conversation with the call-taker.  When the phone line disconnected, the call-taker attempted to call the Uber driver back.  On the second attempt, the Uber driver stated that he just dropped off three suspicious males at a home on Newtons Crest Circle (city of Snellville) that may be related to the earlier shooting.

Gwinnett County Police Officers along with Snellville Officers responded to the home on Newtons Crest Circle and found three suspects.  One suspect remained on scene and was taken into custody (8:47am).  The other two suspects fled on foot behind the home.

The second suspect was found in the area of Scenic Highway and Ashworth Lake Road (Snellville).  He was taken into custody without incident (9:11am).

The Snellville Police Department set up a perimeter while officers, GCPD K9, and Snellville K9 attempted to track the suspect in the woods behind Snellville Christian Church.  The GCPD helicopter was also assisting with a search by air.

A GCPD K9 eventually found the suspect hiding in the wooded area (10:44am) near Highpoint Road and Spruce Circle (Snellville).  The suspect was bitten by the K9 and transported to Eastside Medical Center for treatment.

After an interview with the Uber driver, the officers learned that the suspects abandoned the victim’s vehicle at a Waffle House in Conyers, GA shortly after the shooting.  The Waffle House is located at Sigman Road and Hwy 138.  GCPD officers responded to the restaurant and have taken custody of the vehicle.  It will eventually be transported to Gwinnett County Police Headquarters for processing.

Original, 11/24/2015, 8:00am: (Stone Mountain, Georgia)  On Tuesday, November 24, at 4:24am, a call came into the Gwinnett County Police Department 911 Center of a possible robbery in Room 116 of the Days Inn at 2006 Glenn Club Drive in unincorporated Stone Mountain.  The occupants of Room 117 called the front desk to report the commotion.  The front desk employee called 911.

While the first responding officers were on their way to the scene, the call was upgraded to a possible shooting.  Once officers arrived on scene, they located a Hispanic male who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the head inside Room 116.  The victim was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville for treatment.  His injuries are serious and life-threatening.

The officers at the scene contacted detectives and members of the Crime Scene Unit to respond.

Several witnesses stayed on scene to be interviewed by the lead investigator.  The preliminary investigation has revealed that 4 Hispanic males occupied Room 116.  They are residents of North Carolina who were doing work locally.  They rented a room at the Days Inn for the evening.

The lead investigator is still trying to determine why the victims were targeted.  At this time, we believe this crime (robbery and shooting) was committed by 3 black males.  After the shooting, the 3 suspects stole the victim’s vehicle.

The victim’s vehicle:

  • Make / Model:         Lexus / GS300
  • Year:                      1999
  • Color:                     Black
  • License Plate:         BJC2411 (North Carolina)

Once the family of the victim has been notified of the victim’s condition, I will update this Media Release with his information.
