GWINNETT COMMISSIONERS ACCEPT $2 MILLION FOR I-85 INTERCHANGE AT GRAVEL SPRINGS ROAD
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 22, 2016) – The Board of Commissioners on Aug. 16 voted to accept a $2 million state grant to help fund right-of-way acquisition for a new interchange on Interstate 85 at Gravel Springs Road.
“This grant from the Georgia State Road and Tollway Authority will allow us to begin acquiring right of way for this joint project with the state,” said District 4 Commissioner John Heard.
Gravel Springs Road is on the state highway system as state Route 324. Right-of-way acquisition is to begin within the state’s 2017 fiscal year, which runs from July 2016 to June 2017. Gwinnett County will fund the overhead costs associated with land acquisition while state and federal funds will be used to pay for the value of the land itself.
The project is estimated to cost $19.5 million to complete. A combination of federal, state and SPLOST funds will be used to achieve the engineering and right-of-way phases of the project. The construction phase is to be completed with federal and state funds.
Additional information about these and other SPLOST road improvement projects can be found on the County’s website at www.gwinnettcounty.com.
