(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 4, 2018) – Gwinnett citizens who want to serve the community and be engaged in the electoral process are encouraged to attend Gwinnett County’s poll official hiring events on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8 at the County’s OneStop Norcross facility.

Lynn Ledford, Gwinnett County supervisor of elections, said serving as a poll worker is a great way for citizens to play an invaluable role in our elections and give back to the community at the same time.

“Gwinnett has 156 polling locations as well as eight advance voting locations that we need to staff,” Ledford said. “Working on Election Day is a great opportunity for citizens to be actively involved in the process. Plus you can gain valuable work experience for a résumé and earn a $120 stipend.”

Elections remaining in 2018 are set for Nov. 6 for the General Election and Dec. 4 for runoffs if needed.

The hiring events are set for:

• Thursday, Sept. 6 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
• Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Both events will be held at OneStop Norcross, 5030 Georgia Belle Court in Norcross.

Poll officials’ Election Day duties may include setting up and breaking down voting machines, checking voter identities, processing voters, answering questions and ensuring an orderly balloting process. Some poll officials will also be needed to assist with setting up polling locations the night before Election Day.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, a U.S. citizen, and be able to read, write and speak English; bilingual Spanish speakers are highly encouraged to apply. Applicants must also be Gwinnett County residents or Gwinnett County government employees, have access to a computer for required online training, and have reliable transportation.

Gwinnett County Human Resources staff will be onsite to accept applications in person. Computers will be available at the events for applicants to use.
