(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 6, 2018) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday voted to accept $2 million in grants through the State Road and Tollway Authority, or SRTA.

The grants would come from the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank program for improvements to Spalding Drive within the city of Peachtree Corners.

The project will help to alleviate congestion and improve safety along this regional traffic corridor, according to District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard.

“We are grateful for our ongoing partnership with SRTA and the opportunity to apply for grants through the infrastructure bank program,” she said. “It’s always a win for residents when different governments can pool resources and work together to make things happen.”

Chris Tomlinson, Executive Director of SRTA, congratulated the County on the award of the grant. “GTIB was created for projects like yours, which improve mobility, spur economic development and enable local communities to thrive,” he said.

The County will accept $2 million to supplement local funds being used to widen Spalding Drive from Winters Chapel Road to just west of the intersection with State Route 140/Holcomb Bridge Road for a distance of about 0.6 miles. The bridge over Crooked Creek also would be replaced and sidewalks would be installed along the bridge and throughout the length of the project.

This project will be a coordinated effort by Gwinnett County, the city of Peachtree Corners and the city of Sandy Springs. The total estimated project cost is $11.5 million, with a total local commitment of $9.5 million, or 82.6 percent. The GTIB grant request is for 17.4 percent of the total project value. Gwinnett’s share of the funding would come from the 2014 and 2017 SPLOST programs.
