Location Change For Beaudreau Monthly Meeting

Judge Grants Order On State Sanctions In City-County SDS Dispute
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 9, 2009) - On Tuesday, Gwinnett County received an order to hold state sanctions in abeyance while the County and city governments continue to litigate their service delivery dispute. The order, requested by the County, was granted by the judge presiding over the litigation. The current 10-year strategy, as set forth in state legislation that became effective in 1999, expired Feb. 28. Missing the deadline for a new 10-year strategy with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs placed Gwinnett and each of its cities in an "unqualified status." The sanctions resulting from the unqualified status could have resulted in the loss of millions of dollars in state-administered financial assistance, grants, loans or permits to Gwinnett County and Gwinnett's cities.Read More -

Stimulus Funds To Save Energy
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 15, 2009) - Commissioners voted on Tuesday to accept $7.3 million in federal stimulus funds through the U.S. Department of Energy. Gwinnett is one of 2,300 counties, cities, states, and Indian tribes in the nation that will share a total of $3.2 billion in Energy Efficiency and Conservation block grants, which are funded this year by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act that was passed by Congress earlier this year.Read More -
Myers Appointed Gwinnett Fire Chief
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 15, 2009) - County Administrator Glenn Stephens has named Bill Myers as Gwinnett's new fire chief effective Sept. 19. Myers, a 26-year veteran of the County's Fire and Emergency Services Department, replaces Steve Rolader, who retires on Friday after 33 years with the County. The Board of Commissioners approved Myers' appointment during the Tuesday business session. Myers will oversee a department of 800 employees. His annual salary will be $135,000.Read More -
Gwinnett Files Notice To Appeal In Water Wars Decision
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 17, 2009) - Gwinnett County has filed a notice of appeal in response to the July 17, 2009, decision of Judge Paul Magnuson in the Jacksonville, Fla., District Court on the long-running "Water Wars" cases in which Gwinnett County is a party. Summarized, the judge ruled that if no congressional resolution is reached in three years, Gwinnett County must cease taking water for drinking and fire protection purposes from Lake Lanier.Read More -

Flooding Shuts Down Yellow River Water Reclamation
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 21, 2009) - Flooding has topped the electrical motor controls for the pump station that takes in untreated wastewater at Gwinnett County's Yellow River Water Reclamation Facility near Lilburn, keeping the plant from treating wastewater until the water recedes. Inmate Escapes From Work Detail
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 22, 2009) - An inmate from the Gwinnett County Department of Corrections escaped from a work detail today at 1:15p.m. The inmate is identified as Perry Bernard Williams of Marietta, Georgia. He is described as a black male, 27 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall, 150 pounds, black hair and brown eyes.Read More -

Gwinnett Dams Work In Flood
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 25, 2009) - Fourteen dams in Gwinnett built in the 1970s to reduce floodplains on what was once agricultural land worked as intended during this week's 100-year frequency rainfall event, holding back billions of gallons of potential floodwater. Steve Leo, the County's stormwater manager, said eight of the Category 1 dams were recently upgraded to meet new state and federal safety standards.Read More -
Car In Sinkhole To Be Pulled Out
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 28, 2009) - When a motorist's 1995 Chevrolet Caprice fell into a sinkhole on West Liddell Road near Satellite Boulevard early last Saturday morning, no one knew when it might get pulled out. Gwinnett DOT had closed the road with barrels and warning tape after flooding made it dangerous, but someone moved them according to a report the driver gave police who responded. The next morning, the driver discovered vandals had gotten into the car, smashed the windows, ripped the seats and stolen speakers from the rear deck, according to another police report. A pedestrian reported seeing people around the car at about 4 a.m. Sunday morning.Read More -
Conserving Water Is Still Important
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 30, 2009) - In the midst of record floods, the County's Department of Water Resources reported on its water conservation measures last week. Gwinnett Receives AAA Ratings On New Bonds
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 6, 2009) - When Gwinnett County issues about $270 million in new revenue bonds for water and sewer improvements soon, it will get the low-interest benefits of AAA ratings thanks to new credit assessments from Standard and Poor's, Moody's Investor Services and Fitch Ratings. Commissioners Approve Five Tax Allocation Districts
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 6, 2009) - Gwinnett County took a big step toward revitalizing older areas of the county Tuesday when commissioners approved redevelopment plans and the formation of five tax allocation districts, also known as TADs. Under state law, counties can issue development bonds for specified redevelopment areas to be paid back from increased tax revenues from those areas as they are improved.
