(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 27, 2010) - Gwinnett County judges have agreed to additional furlough days in 2010 to staunch the losses caused by state budget cuts.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 28, 2010) - Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Chairman Charles Bannister has been named vice-chairman of the Atlanta Regional Commission. ARC Chairman Tad Leithead appointed Bannister to the two-year term on Wednesday.

WHAT: Ribbon cutting ceremony for SPLOST-funded Sugarloaf Parkway extension. The 2.7-mile roadway extends Sugarloaf Parkway from State Route 20 (Grayson Highway) to New Hope Road. Roadway will be open to traffic immediately following ribbon cutting ceremony. State DOT also provided funding for the project.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 2, 2010) - Commissioners today accepted a $30,691 donation from the Brookwood Athletic Association to go toward improvements to the seven youth baseball/softball fields at Bethesda Park in Lawrenceville.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 2, 2010) - Gwinnett officials today held a ribbon cutting to open section one of the first phase of Sugarloaf Parkway extension to traffic. The roadway extends Sugarloaf Parkway from State Route 20 south of Lawrenceville to a new interchange at New Hope Road. The project also includes over 1.5 miles of upgrades to existing roadways surrounding the extension.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 2, 2010) - Gwinnett County Commission Chairman Charles Bannister issued the following statement concerning the cities' intent to file a legal motion against the State of Georgia involving service delivery negotiations between the County and the cities in Gwinnett: "I was made aware shortly after lunch today that Buddy Welch, the attorney for all 15 Gwinnett cities in the Service Delivery Strategy litigation, has prepared and will file tomorrow by 2 p.m. a motion to hold Commissioner Michael Beatty of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs in contempt?for?not imposing sanctions on the residents of Gwinnett County. Mr. Welch has informed Commissioner Beatty of this intention by letter dated today, which is accompanied by 42 pages of supporting documentation.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 8, 2010) - The public is invited to attend any of four upcoming meetings to comment on the initial findings of the 42-member Engage Gwinnett citizens committee that, since last fall, has been studying county services and how to fund those services.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 10, 2010) - All Gwinnett County government offices, with the exception of those operations required for the comfort and safety of the citizens of the county, will be closed Feb. 15 for the Presidents' Day holiday. All offices will resume regular working hours on Feb. 16.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 16, 2010) - Today Gwinnett officials held a ribbon cutting to open the new Police Headquarters Annex, at 800 Hi-Hope Rd. in Lawrenceville. The annex is home to the County's E-911 communications center, emergency operations center and backup data center. The project came in with a lower price tag and two months ahead of schedule.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 18, 2010) - Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau's next monthly meeting will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Five Forks Library Branch, 2780 Five Forks Trickum Road in Lawrenceville. The commissioner will meet with constituents from noon to 2 p.m.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 19, 2010) - The public is invited to attend community meetings to comment on the initial findings of the 42-member Engage Gwinnett citizens committee that, since last fall, has been studying county services and how to fund those services. The first meeting was held on Feb. 18 in Duluth. Organizers strongly encourage interested citizens to make time for one of the three remaining meetings.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 25, 2010) - A construction project at the Lanier Filter Plant near Buford has allowed Gwinnett County to recycle almost two million gallons per day of filter backwash water since its completion in 2008. "After reviewing the data for the last two years, we're proud to announce that we're saving nearly two million gallons of water per day," said Acting Director of Water Resources Lynn Smarr.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., March 1, 2010) - Minor water leaks waste more than a trillion gallons of water each year in U.S. homes. "In a single home, leaks can waste more than 10,000 gallons every year - enough to fill a backyard swimming pool," said Peter Frank with Gwinnett County's Department of Water Resources. "Gwinnett County wants to help homeowners save money on their utility bills and save water in our community and for future generations."

(Lawrenceville, Ga., March 2, 2010) - The public is invited to help plan ways to respond to both natural and manmade hazards in the Gwinnett area. The Gwinnett County Office of Emergency Management is seeking public input on the updated Gwinnett County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The draft plan has been posted to the County's website at www.gwinnettcounty.com.
