  • Stimulus Funds Transit Operations

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 20, 2009) - Federal stimulus funds will help subsidize Gwinnett Transit operating costs to the tune of $970,512 under provisions of a bill President Obama signed into law last June. The law now allows using up to 10 percent of transportation-related American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for operating expenses. Gwinnett commissioners voted Tuesday to take advantage of the new provision by shifting previous allocations from other categories.

  • Company Asks Commissioners to Apply For FAA Privatization Program

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 24, 2009) - A private company has asked Gwinnett officials to consider selling or leasing Briscoe Field, the County-owned airport located near State Route 316 in Lawrenceville. The company, whose identity remains confidential at this time, wants to convert the County airport into a private enterprise under the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Privatization Pilot Program.

  • County Cuts Staff, Outsources Assessments

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 7, 2009) - Gwinnett County continued to trim its workforce today with the implementation of a reduction in force in the Tax Assessor's Office. The elimination of 12 staff positions comes as the result of a new business strategy to outsource both commercial real estate and personal property assessments. Property subject to personal property tax includes planes, boats, inventory, business equipment and manufactured homes.

The budget details total appropriations of $1.33 billion, down considerably from the 2009 budget of $1.71 billion. Included within the budget is $974.6 million for operating expenses and $355.3 million for capital expenditures.

  • Gwinnett Swat Team Replaces Truck

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 5, 2010) - Gwinnett commissioners Tuesday approved replacing a nearly 20-year-old equipment truck for the Gwinnett Police SWAT team. The highly-specialized, heavy-duty vehicle will have a modular design so it can carry current and future equipment. Funds from the Federal Law Enforcement Account, seized from criminals by federal agents, will cover almost $139,000 of the total cost of $439, 693. The truck will be built by Marion Body Works, inc. of Marion, Wis.

  • County Seeks Funds For Flood Damage

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 5, 2010) - Gwinnett County has submitted requests for reimbursement of about $2.6 million in flood-related expenses to date. Grants Manager Tanikia Jackson said federal and state funds will cover about 85 percent of eligible expenses for an anticipated total of roughly $12.7 million once all the paperwork has been processed. Commissioners approved an agreement on Tuesday with the Office of Homeland Security/Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) to accept the first payment of about $10,000.
