    (Lawrenceville, Ga., May 1, 2017) – Students interested in participating in Gwinnett County Government’s new Gwinnett Youth Commission have a few more days to turn in their applications. The County is launching a new initiative to develop youth leaders in Gwinnett by recruiting rising high school sophomores, juniors and seniors to join the Gwinnett County Youth Commission.   • Burglary Prevention

    (Lawrenceville, Georgia)  Gwinnett County Police Department burglary detectives would like to warn the public about a particular method commonly used by burglars to select targets.  Residential burglars often approach a target home and ring the doorbell.  If no one answers, the burglar goes to the back door and knocks there also.  If no one answers again, the burglar forces entry through the back door and burglarizes the residence.  Part of this scheme is having an excuse for ringing the doorbell in the first place, in case a resident answers the door.  Often the burglar will act as a door-to-door salesman and offer some product or service the resident is unlikely to want.

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., April 21, 2020) – The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Tuesday took a step toward attaining and preparing for coronavirus-related grant funding. At the commissioners’ business session, the board voted to approve the application for and — if awarded — the acceptance of public assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency as well as grant funding through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, known as the CARES Act. The CARES Act authorized $2.2 trillion dollars to facilitate stimulus relief for the American public, businesses and state and local governments.

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., June 23, 2020) – Starting Wednesday, Gwinnett County’s Summer Meals Program will expand to 11 more locations for free grab-and-go breakfasts and lunches for children 18 years old and younger. The program allows parents, caregivers or community groups to pick up nutritious meals for children to take home, or children can pick up their own meals. Registration is not required.

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., June 30, 2020) – Today at noon, Gwinnett County Small Business Assistance Program will begin accepting applications for $20 million in federal CARES Act grants and loans from for-profit businesses hurt by the pandemic. The funds are intended to help businesses reopen their doors with such needs as deep cleaning facilities, modifying facilities to accommodate ongoing social distancing, restocking inventory, marketing to their clients, and/or paying staff in advance of reopening and achieving revenue.

  • HOMICIDE ON SADDLE RIDGE DRIVE IN SNELLVILLE

    Update:

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 12, 2026) – Detectives have identified the victim as Abel Alejandro Unzicker Chavez (36, Snellville).  Derrick Devon Thomas (30, Snellville) has been charged with Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Firearm during a Felony and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.  Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting.
