  • Gwinnett Home Buying Program Aims To Stabilize Neighborhoods

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., July 20, 2010) - Gwinnett County will continue buying and renovating foreclosed homes in an effort to stabilize hard-hit neighborhoods, help provide affordable housing and create jobs in the struggling housing and construction industries. Commissioners on Tuesday accepted additional grant funds of almost $900,000 for its Neighborhood Stabilization Program from the state Community Affairs department.

  • Prisoner Program Gets Grant Support

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., July 20, 2010) - Inmates at Gwinnett County's Comprehensive Correctional Complex will continue to get job training and help transitioning back to society thanks to a Workforce Investment Act grant of almost $118,000 from the Atlanta Regional Commission. Gwinnett is the only county in the state that gets these funds for its inmate programs.

  • Diverging Diamond Interchanges At JCB And Pleasant Hill Advance

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., July 20, 2010) - Plans for short-term improvements at two I-85 interchanges in Gwinnett are moving into the design phase after the Board of Commissioners approved agreements with two Community Improvement Districts (CID) on Tuesday. Both interchanges will use the diverging diamond design that improves traffic flow on existing bridges by rerouting vehicles to make left turns possible without waiting for oncoming traffic.

  • Pedestrian Improvements Ahead For North Berkeley Lake Road

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 5, 2010) - Sidewalks, curb and gutter, guardrail, drainage improvements, paving and traffic calming devices are coming soon to North Berkeley Lake Road. Gwinnett commissioners on Tuesday approved a $373,654 contract that will use funds from the 2001 SPLOST program. The contractor will be Atlanta Demolition and Grading LLC of Suwanee, the lowest of six bidders on the project.

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 17, 2010) - A revised fiscal year 2010 budget was approved by the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners on Tuesday. This customary process adjusts the current year's spending plan to address changes that have taken place since the Board adopted the 2010 budget in January. This year's reconciliation budget includes declining property values that produced a $31 million shortfall.

  • Iconic Water Tanks Coming Down

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 23, 2010) - Work has begun to tear down the iconic water tanks on I-85 in Gwinnett County. The roughly 35-year-old tanks were identified for demolition along with other facilities and equipment rendered obsolete by recent water system improvements. Equipment was moved to the site on Goshen Springs Road near Jimmy Carter Boulevard last week and the tanks will come down over the next three to four weeks.

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 1, 2010) - Septic tanks will soon be a thing of the past in the Fox Hill subdivision, a neighborhood of about 60 homes off East Jones Bridge Road in the Peachtree Corners area. Back in 2005, community leaders there started collecting signatures on a sewer petition. When 70 percent of the homeowners agree, the County will install sewer pipes.
