(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 8, 2010) - Gwinnett recently received its allotment of electronic bar code scanners from the state for use in the upcoming November election. The scanners will instantly compare poll book information with a potential voter's driver's license identification.

(Lawrenceville, Ga. September 16, 2010) Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Katherine Meyer reminds taxpayers that the first payment installment date for 2010 property tax bills is September 22.  Taxpayers may choose to pay their 2010 taxes in full by this date; however, the first installment amount is the minimum amount due.  

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 22, 2010) - Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau's next monthly meeting will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Harbins Park Pavilion at 2995 Luke Edwards Road in Dacula. The commissioner will meet with constituents from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., September 23, 2010) - A new transportation system will help Gwinnett seniors and residents with disabilities get around, thanks to funds from the New Freedom Act Grant administered through the Atlanta Regional Commission and MARTA.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., September 28, 2010) - Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation will partner with Page2Stage Productions and Stacey Sparks Events to present "The Haunting on the Square," a chilling murder mystery dinner event at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse. Leading up to Halloween, the event will take place 7:00-9:00pm on Fridays, including October 8, 15, 22, and 29. 

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 29, 2010) - Back in April 2009, Gwinnett County hired a consultant to analyze its electricity accounts and recommend ways to reduce the $22 million it was spending to power its offices, courtrooms, water and sewer systems, traffic and street lights, computers, sports fields, the jail, the prison and other County facilities.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 5, 2010) - Six Gwinnett residents will serve on the Chairman's budget review committee to help set priorities and seek ways to prioritize spending in county government operations and capital improvement plans. Board of Commissioners Chairman Charles Bannister announced the six members on Tuesday, saying he increased the number from two in previous years in response to rising public interest.

(Lawrenceville, GA, October 11, 2010) On October 2, volunteers donated over 100 hours of service for Perk-Up Pinckneyville, sponsored by Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation, the Gwinnett Parks Foundation, Gwinnett Great Days of Service and Hands on Atlanta. The project included a beautiful mural at the Pinckneyville Park Community Recreation Center game room and renovation of a raised outdoor garden. Children, teens, adults and seniors came together as a team and using the plants, paint, mulch and planting needs donated, completed the Perk-Up Pinckneyville project. This joint effort was a true testimonial of what the residents of Gwinnett can and will do to improve our recreation facilities.

(LAWRENCEVILLE, GA., Oct. 11, 2010) - The Gwinnett Parks Foundation will be hosting a 5K road race on Sat., Nov. 13 at Tribble Mill Park.

The race features a beautiful 5K course on the trail at the park as well as a special Canine and Carriage for those wanting to run with their dogs or strollers. All registered runners will receive a race t-shirt. Medals will be given to all participants who finish and awards will be presented to Overall Male and Female, Master Male and Female and 3-deep in five-year age categories.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., October 11, 2010) - Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation is dedicated to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for park patrons and fall is the perfect time to remind citizens to be safe and smart when visiting the many parks throughout the county. With the end of Daylight Savings time on November 7 comes cooler temperatures and shorter days, which means less daylight for your park adventures! In order to continue providing a safe and enjoyable environment, GCPR will be installing new Park Smart signs at various parks. The installation of these signs is in partnership with Gwinnett County Police Department, in an effort to reduce the risk of park patrons becoming victims of crime.

What: Annual Senior Prom hosted by Gwinnett Senior Services. Many seniors get a chance for the first time to attend a senior prom with their sweethearts and friends - dressed in their gala outfits, complete with corsages and a disc jockey playing old and new tunes.

Who: Seniors who attend the Lawrenceville, Norcross and Buford Senior Centers.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 19, 2010) - Construction will begin soon on another piece of the Ivy Creek Greenway trail. Currently one section of the Greenway is already complete and extends from the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center to the Mall of Georgia.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 21, 2010) - A new state law will change how counties set property tax values starting in January. The state legislature passed SB 346 earlier this year. Gwinnett's Chief Appraiser Steve Pruitt briefed the Board of Commissioners Tuesday on what to expect.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 26, 2010) - Gwinnett County has signed an agreement with the state that will provide $11 million of federal funds for right-of-way acquisition to widen State Route 20/Cumming Highway near Sugar Hill from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to the Chattahoochee River.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Oct. 28, 2010) - Gwinnett residents are invited to attend a semi-annual SPLOST Citizen Review Committee meeting to be held Friday Oct. 29 at 9 a.m. at the new Lawrenceville Police Headquarters located at 300 Jackson Street. Police Chief Randy Johnson will lead a tour of the SPLOST-funded facility following the meeting.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 1, 2010) - Gwinnett County Voter Registration and Elections wants to inform voters about write-in candidate requirements before they head to the polls tomorrow. Gwinnett Elections Director Lynn Ledford said, "There is a misconception that votes for any write-in candidate will be tabulated. However, Georgia has laws in place that govern ballot access, including ballot access by write-in candidates."

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 4, 2010) -  On Tuesday, Gwinnett County officials held ribbon cutting ceremonies to open two fire stations in northeast Gwinnett. Fire Station 18 moved from its previous location on Braselton Highway into a larger, three-bay station at the corner of Mineral Springs Road and Hog Mountain Road in Hamilton Mill. The $5.1 million sales-tax funded station includes living quarters for firefighters, a commercial-grade kitchen, office space and a community classroom.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 4, 2010) - Gwinnett County will host the annual Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville. The public is invited to attend this observance to pay tribute to the men and women who have served honorably in the military, during wartime or peacetime, and to memorialize the fallen heroes who have sacrificed their lives to protect our nation.
