(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 4, 2010) - All Gwinnett County government offices, with the exception of those operations required for the comfort and safety of the citizens of the County, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 11 for the Veterans Day holiday. All offices will resume regular working hours on Friday, Nov. 12.

A Magistrate Court judge will be available at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 3, 2010) - Local business leaders will join with Gwinnett County officials to explore how technology can help increase the local government's effectiveness, efficiency and innovation. The Excellence Through Innovation project is one result of the Engage Gwinnett citizens committee that examined County operations and made budget recommendations to the Board of Commissioners last spring.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 10, 2010) - Three major credit ratings agencies have reaffirmed Gwinnett County's overall credit rating as AAA with a stable outlook, citing the County's conservative financial management policies and practices as key factors. In addition, the Gwinnett County Water and Sewer Authority and the Gwinnett County Development Authority were also confirmed AAA from Moody's, Standard and Poor's and Fitch Ratings.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 17, 2010) - Gwinnett commissioners awarded a construction contract today to build the final leg to extend Sugarloaf Parkway to State Route 316. It's the last of four contracts to build the first phase of a new, four-lane roadway from the previous end at State Route 20 south of Lawrenceville to SR 316 in the Dacula area. When completed, the new road will have interchanges at New Hope Road, Martins Chapel Road, Campbell Road and State Route 316.

(Lawrenceville, Ga. November 10, 2010) - Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner Katherine Meyer reminds taxpayers that the final payment installment date for 2010 property tax bills is November 15. Taxpayers must pay their 2010 taxes in full by this date.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 17, 2010) - Gwinnett County officials held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday to officially open Fire Station 30 in Loganville. The $4.8 million sales-tax funded station includes living quarters for firefighters, a commercial-grade kitchen, office space and a community classroom.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 17, 2010) - Graves Park will get more than 1,900 new trees under a reforestation contract that Gwinnett commissioners awarded Tuesday to low bidder Tri Scapes, Inc. The project follows recommendations made by the Engage Gwinnett citizens committee last spring. That group said the County should use SPLOST funds to make park renovations that will reduce operating costs like mowing and irrigation.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 18, 2010) - Several road improvement projects funded by the SPLOST sales tax programs got a green light from Gwinnett commissioners on Tuesday. The board also entered an agreement with Gwinnett Village CID to contribute $5.4 million to intersection and sidewalk projects there and approved using almost $216,000 in federal stimulus funds to replace light bulbs in traffic signals with energy saving LED lights.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 19, 2010) - Gwinnett commissioners changed the law on water conservation Tuesday to meet rules set this year by the state legislature. The 2010 Georgia Water Stewardship Act (SB 370) requires local governments to adopt certain provisions by Jan. 1, 2011.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 18, 2010) - Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau's next monthly meeting will be held on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Lenora Park classroom at 4515 Lenora Church Road in Snellville. The commissioner will meet with constituents from 10 a.m. to noon.

WHAT: Gwinnett County will celebrate America Recycles Day, a nationally-recognized initiative. The celebration is free to the public and includes paper shredding and electronics recycling ($10 cash to recycle TVs), touch-a-truck, kids’ activities, giveaways and refreshments. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned foods to help Salvation Army feed those in need during the holidays and participate in a recycling bin contest for prizes. 

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 1, 2010) - Gwinnett County has published the proposed fiscal  year 2011 budget and will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m. in the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville. The public is invited to make either oral or written comments about the budget during the hearing. The Board of Commissioners is expected to consider the 2011 budget during its regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 4, 2011.

WHAT: A list of qualified candidates for the special election to fill the unexpired term of Chairman of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners will be posted on the Gwinnett County government website. The qualifying period will take place from 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 6, 2010, until noon on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, in the Elections Office.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Nov. 18, 2010) - Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation staff has been recognized by Georgia Recreation & Park Association District 7. The prestigious Distinguished Professional Award was given to Grant Guess, Division Director for Project Administration for his accomplishments and dedication to Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation. Grant has overseen the development of the Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation since its inception as a countywide Department in 1987. Under his direction, Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation has flourished to the 44 current parks totaling 9,121 acres which has a dramatic impact on the quality of life in Gwinnett County.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 6, 2010) - Gwinnett County District 3 Commissioner Mike Beaudreau's next monthly meeting will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 in the Mountain Park Activity Building located in the Mountain Park Aquatic Center at 1063 Rockbridge Road in Stone Mountain. The commissioner will meet with constituents from 10 a.m. to noon.

WHAT: A free, two-hour workshop will be offered to homeowners affected by the recent tornado in Buford called “How to Protect Yourself from Home Improvement Fraud.” This workshop is open to the public and will include topics on hiring a contractor, obtaining building permits, things to do before, during, and after a project, executing a contract, lien releases, typical scams, greenwashing (a type of fraud that deceptively labels a product or service as environmentally sustainable), how to work with your insurance agent to protect your home, conflict resolution and payment schedules. 

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 10, 2010) - Gwinnett County and HUD officials participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Gwinnett Senior Services Center on Friday, Dec. 10. The new facility is designed as a LEED Silver building to maximize energy use and water conservation. GSSC is located on a 6.4-acre Gwinnett County-owned site at 567 Swanson Drive in Lawrenceville.
