Commission Approves Recovery Zone Bonds
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 14, 2010) - Federal stimulus money will soon be put to use in Gwinnett after commissioners on Tuesday gave their approval for the Development Authority of Gwinnett County to issue $30 million in Recovery Zone Facility Bonds, designed to fund certain private facilities in "recovery zone" areas. Commissioners accepted more than $2 million to help cover repairs after the flood in September 2009. (Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 16, 2010) - Gwinnett officials held a ribbon cutting to open section two of the first phase of Sugarloaf Parkway extension to traffic on Dec. 14. The roadway extends Sugarloaf Parkway from New Hope Road to a new interchange at Martins Chapel Road. Gwinnett Public Safety Responds To Winter Weather Impacts
(Lawrenceville, Ga., Dec. 16, 2010) - Gwinnett County public safety and transportation departments worked through Wednesday night and into early Thursday morning responding to a large number of accidents due to the icy roads caused by Wednesday's rain and ice event. A Winter Weather Advisory went into effect for most of north Georgia until 7 a.m. Thursday morning, bringing freezing temperatures and a mix of sleet and rain. According to police reports, light accumulations resulting in patchy ice on bridges and other elevated surfaces were the main threat. As a result, the County's 911 center received 2,314 emergency calls between 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 9 a.m. on Thursday.Read More -
