  • Neighborhood Stabilization Program Rehabilitates Foreclosed And Abandoned House

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Jan. 21, 2011) - Gwinnett County took a major step in the rehabilitation of a home in the Avington Glen subdivision on Friday, Jan. 21. The County used federal and state Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds to purchase this and 11 other foreclosed and/or dilapidated homes in the Sugarloaf Parkway/New Hope area and rebuild them to livable standards. Mill Creek Construction Services, one of four contractors for the NSP program, is responsible for the environmentally friendly rehabilitation of this home.

  • Emergency Medical Transport Charges Raised To Cover Costs

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 1, 2011) - Gwinnett commissioners today raised the charge for Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services emergency medical transports by $225 per trip, covering more of the cost of providing emergency medical transport services. The change takes effect immediately and will increase the base cost of emergency transport in Gwinnett County from $750 to $975.

  • Court Hosts Annual Valentine’s Day Wedding Ceremonies

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 4, 2011) - Celebrate this Valentine's Day by joining other couples at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse on Monday, Feb. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the old Justice of the Peace Office (Room 103) where Magistrate Court judges will perform Valentine's Day wedding ceremonies or perform special ceremonies to renew wedding vows.

  • Presidential Volunteer Service Awards

    Lawrenceville, Ga., February 7, 2011) - Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation has a long tradition of volunteer service. On February 1, a Volunteer Appreciation Reception was held to recognize the valuable contributions of more than 11,000 volunteers who are dedicated and passionate about Gwinnett County Parks. Vicki Jacob, recently recognized Volunteer of the Year by the Georgia Recreation and Park Association, District 7 was the keynote speaker. Vicki has always been very passionate about volunteering and a true ambassador for GCPR. The drive behind volunteering is simply that "when volunteers see a need, we brainstorm a way to fill that need", said Vicki.

  • County Offices Closed For Presidents Day

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 14, 2011) - All Gwinnett County government offices, with the exception of those operations required for the comfort and safety of the citizens of the county, will be closed Feb. 21 for the Presidents Day holiday. All offices will resume regular working hours on Feb. 22. A Magistrate Court judge will be available at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.

  • Western Gwinett Bikeway To Be Extended Soon

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 17, 2011) - Construction on another section of the Western Gwinnett Bikeway will soon get underway after the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a contract with the Astra Group, Inc., for just under $1.2 million, funded by the City of Duluth and the state DOT. The 10-foot wide multi-purpose trail system will eventually connect the cities of Norcross, Berkeley Lake and Duluth in Gwinnett County and Johns Creek in Fulton County, giving local residents a way to exercise and get around to parks and community facilities.

  • Mandatory 90-Day Vacancy Period Expected To Save $2.2 Million

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 22, 2011) - In a move projected to save at least $2.2 million this year, the Gwinnett County Commission voted today to require that all vacant positions be held open for a minimum of 90 days. The action has the practical effect of extending a general hiring freeze that has been in place since August 2008 for all positions reporting to the County Administrator.

  • County Considers Cutting Holidays To Help Reduce Deficit

    (Lawrenceville, Ga., Feb. 25, 2011) - As part of an ongoing effort to balance the 2011 budget, loss of holiday pay for County employees will be considered by the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, March 1. The measure would reduce the county's annual payroll by just under $2.8 million by counting four of the county's eight remaining annual holidays as furlough days and not paying employees for those days off.
