Meteor Madness See the Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower
Daniel Herron from the Atlanta Astronomy Club will be on hand with his telescope to share with visitors, and to talk to the participants about the meteor shower. After the meteor shower, there will be a continental breakfast provided by the Atlanta Bread Company. The cost for this event is $5 per person. Outback Steakhouse Donates over 400 Meals to Gwinnett Seniors
What: This is the 12th year Outback Steakhouse in Suwanee has donated meals to benefit Friends of Gwinnett County Senior Services, the non-profit organization that financially supplements core programs for Gwinnett County Senior Services. The annual event has generated more than $100,000 through the years. Funds from the Outback at Work Charity lunch will help to subsidize the 135,000 home-delivered and congregate meals which are prepared annually by Gwinnett County Senior Services and delivered by volunteers and staff. COUNTY WILL DEMOLISH OAK STREET BUILDINGS
(Lawrenceville, Ga., April 26, 2011) - Before Gwinnett County moved its headquarters to the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center back in 1988, County administration was based at a complex of three buildings at 240 Oak Street in downtown Lawrenceville. Two of them were built in 1948 to house Lawrenceville High School at a time when the population of the whole county was 31,000 and growing at just one percent a year. GWINNETT STILL CUTTING COSTS
(Lawrenceville, Ga., May 17, 2011) - The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners took further steps Tuesday to reduce spending and increase the budget stabilization reserve. Cost cutting has become second nature under continuing negative economic pressures. Gwinnett County started this year planning to use $20.8 million from fund balance (also known as reserve funds), not including an $18 million difference between expenses and revenues. Commissioners resolved the $18 million gap in March and now have eliminated about three-fourths of the planned spending from fund balance.Read More
