This action accompanies other milestones reached during the year that have effectively reduced a financial deficit in the fiscal year 2011 budget.

Police officers, code enforcement, animal control and fire marshals will be able to issue electronic tickets to offenders and upload their citations to central servers over a cellular modem.

(Suwanee, Ga., July 26, 2011) - George Pierce Park Community Recreation Center is honored to showcase a 35-year art career retrospective by Chris Hamman. Witness Hamman's evolution in development and style over his distinguished career.  The exhibit will be available for viewing and open to the public beginning Aug. 1, to Nov. 29, Mon. through Thurs. 9 a.m. to  8 p.m., Fri. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sat. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 26, 2011) - The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners last week approved just under $1.1 million to study transportation alternatives and opportunities in the I-85 corridor from I-285 to the Gwinnett Center. This project is funded 50 percent by the 2009 SPLOST Program and 50 percent by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration. 

(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 28, 2011) - Gwinnett County District 2 Commissioner Lynette Howard invites her constituents to attend a series of town hall meetings during the month of August. The meetings will be held at four different locations throughout District 2 and will cover the county government's finances and other important information for residents to hear.

(Lawrenceville, GA - Aug. 2, 2011) - Commissioners today accepted a donation to supplement the County's senior citizens meals program. The nonprofit organization Friends of Gwinnett Senior Services (Friends) donated $65,625 to help Gwinnett County provide home-delivered meals to senior citizens currently on a waiting list.

In addition to the educational sessions, participants are encouraged to take advantage of the expo hall featuring product demonstrations, vendor giveaways and a silent auction. All proceeds from the silent auction will benefit the Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation Scholarship Fund for youth sports. Among the items being auctioned will be signed sports memorabilia, vacations and golf certificates.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 5, 2011) - Two projects to improve pedestrian safety in the Gwinnett Place area advanced Tuesday when Gwinnett commissioners approved contracts with the state Department of Transportation.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 10, 2011) - Gwinnett commissioners voted unanimously on Monday to lower the County's millage rate from the 2010 rate of 13.25 mills to 13.02 mills for 2011. The board also authorized the 2011 property tax billings.

(Lawrenceville, Ga. August 10, 2011) Tax Commissioner Richard Steele announced that 2011 property tax bills will be mailed to Gwinnett County taxpayers by September 15; however, in a  change from previous billings, all bills will have a single due date of November 15.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 16, 2011) - County commissioners gave a green light to three more road improvement projects on New Hope Road on Tuesday. The County completed intersection upgrades at New Hope Road and Luke Edwards Road earlier this summer.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 17, 2011) - Gwinnett County Government has launched an interactive web page that lets property owners see the value they get in county services for the property taxes they pay. The page is titled Where Your Property Taxes Go and can be accessed from the Your Money button on the home page of the County's website, www.gwinnettcounty.com.

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Aug. 18, 2011) - The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday approved a resolution to implement a countywide volunteer program, establishing a goal to reach one million volunteer hours per year by 2015. While some departments already have active volunteer programs in place, the comprehensive Volunteer Gwinnett program was developed in response to an Engage Gwinnett committee recommendation to engage residents in volunteer activities to support government operations and potentially save money.
