Donate and make a difference
Each year, thousands of animals in Gwinnett County are born as strays or abandoned by their owners and end up at the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Shelter. In addition to the enforcement of the Gwinnett County Animal Control Ordinances we also care for the animals that come into our custody. We try to find good homes for as many animals as possible through rescue organizations and adoptions. While the animals are here we want to provide them the best possible care in a safe environment. We are able to provide a basic level of care for the animals, but our goal is to improve their overall health, increase the number of adoptions, and rescues and provide public education on topics such as the importance of having pets spayed and neutered.
We appreciate your interest in making a donation to support the animal welfare initiatives of the Gwinnett County Animal Shelter. Monetary donations are tax-deductible under Section 170(c) of the Internal Revenue Code since we are a local government agency. You will receive a receipt for your records, and your contribution will allow us to pursue our goals in the following programs:
Thanks to a program sponsored by Merial, a pharmaceutical company that specializes in medical products for animals, we are able to provide FRONTLINE® for fleas and ticks and HEARTGARD® to prevent heartworms for the animals coming into the Shelter. However, prior to the Heart Guard medication, we must test each animal for heartworms. Also, in order to ensure the overall health of the animals, our goal is to vaccinate them with Canine Distemper-Adenovirus Type 2-Parainfluenza-Parvovirus with Canine Coronavirus Vaccine (DAPP-CV/DHPP-CV). Both the heartworm test and vaccination while relatively inexpensive individually, however when multiplied by the thousands of animals we handle each year, testing becomes expensive. Your donation will help us purchase the tests and vaccinations for the animals.
Rescues and Adoptions
Our goal is to rescue or adopt every animal, and while that is not possible in a public shelter, we can certainly do more to ensure they are adopted or rescued. Your donation will help us advertise adoption events and provide operating supplies to host these events. While there is an overpopulation of animals in the south, many areas of the country do not have animals available for adoption. Local rescue organizations work with out-of-state organizations to relocate animals to these areas. The cost of preparing and transporting the animals can be cost-prohibitive and your donations will help defray these costs.
Equipment and Supplies
New technology, equipment, and information are available on a daily basis to help better care for animals and improve their quality of life. These might include special cleaning or sanitizing equipment, equipment to humanely capture animals, specialized supplies for cleaning, or medical supplies to aid in caring for the animals. Public information materials can educate people on the importance of spaying and neutering as well as keep their pets healthy. Your donations will help with these needs.
Your generous donations are appreciated and used to provide care for Gwinnett County's furry friends. Please support the center with a donation today!
