The Process

The Gwinnett 2040 Unified Plan will be prepared in a five-step process.

  1. In the Research phase, the planning team will review data and previous planning efforts to understand the various trends and phenomena in Gwinnett County.  This phase officially kicks off with a Public Hearing on December 19, 2017 at 7 PM as part of the Board of Commissioner’s Public Hearing.

  2. In the Vision phase, the planning team will be working with the community to establish a unified vision for the future of the County.  This part of the process will include a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events to solicit feedback.

  3. In the Develop phase, the planning team will begin the task of preparing the plan and investigating different approaches to achieve the established Vision for the community.  This part of the process will also include a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events.

  4. In the Document phase, the planning team will make final recommendations and prepare the tangible planning document.  This part of the process will also include a series of Community Open Houses and other community engagement events.

  5. In the final Adopt phase, the planning team will coordinate with regulatory agencies such as the Department of Community Affairs and the Atlanta Regional Commission.  This phase kicks off with a Public Hearing planned for October 23, 2018 at 7 PM as part of the Board of Commissioner’s Public Hearing.

The Adopt phase will end when the Board of Commissioners considers formally adopting the Gwinnett 2040 Unified Plan.  The Department of Community Affairs requires that the Gwinnett 2040 Unified Plan be adopted by the end of February 2019.
