CSX to replace railroad ties at several Gwinnett crossings

CSX Transportation will replace railroad ties at several railroad crossings in Gwinnett County starting this week.

The work is expected to last six weeks, weather permitting, and will impact almost all at-grade crossings on the rail line, which somewhat parallels US Highway 29. One team will start near the DeKalb County line and the other team will start in Dacula, and they will work their way eastward.

CSX Transportation representative Ray Porter said the work crews are like rolling production lines that work their way down the tracks, working the crossings as they come to them.

Porter said each crossing could be closed for several days and multiple crossings may be closed at the same time. Some of the crossings have two to three tracks, which may increase the time required at those locations.

Porter thanked motorists in advance for their understanding and cooperation, and asked drivers to follow any posted detours or to seek alternate routes.
