Residents of unincorporated Gwinnett County will see a reduction in the monthly fee for solid waste collection starting July 1 when an eight-year agreement with residential trash haulers goes into effect.

As part of the agreement, Gwinnett County residents will retain their existing hauler. The overall monthly fee for solid waste collection has been reduced from $19.16 to $17.91.

The senior discount will change from 15 percent to 25 percent, reducing senior fees from $16.47 to $13.75 per month. Residents ages 62 and older who are not currently receiving the senior discount must submit an application and affidavit form to Solid Waste Management. Download the form and view instructions for submission here.

Additionally, haulers will provide larger, covered 65-gallon recycling carts on wheels to replace the current 18-gallon recycling bins. Residents can request the new, larger cart by contacting their hauler or by completing an online request available here.

Glass will no longer be accepted at the curb for single stream recycling. Glass placed in recycling containers may break, contaminating other recyclables. Glass should be disposed of with household trash or taken to a separate facility that offers glass recycling.

If you elect optional yard waste collection on a 12-month basis, you will receive a 25 percent discount, reducing the rate from $10.00 per month to $7.50 per month. Residents should submit applications for the reduced yard waste rate to their hauler.

Residential trash and recycling service will still include weekly pickup of household waste and accepted recycling items. Gwinnett solid waste haulers will accept recycled clean plastic containers; metal, such as tin, aluminum, and steel cans; paper, including magazines, newspapers, bags, paper cups, and junk mail; paperboard boxes; and broken-down cardboard.

The amended contract with residential trash haulers was approved by the Board of Commissioners in December 2017.
