BLAZE DAMAGES HOME NEAR SNELLVILLE

Firefighters responded at 8:31 a.m., to a report of a house fire in the 3600 block of Starboard Lane, SW in (unincorporated) Snellville.  The caller to 9-1-1 was a passerby who saw flames coming from the house.  A neighbor knocked on the door at the time of the call, but got no answer.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor and attic of a two-story, wood-frame house on a slab.  Firefighters quickly deployed attack hose lines and immediately entered the burning home to conduct a primary search for victims and to control the blaze.  Firefighters were forced to back-out moments later due to partial collapse of the roof and advancing fire conditions.  They were able to knock-down the bulk of the flames from the exterior before going back inside to complete extinguishment.  There was no one found inside the house and no injuries were reported.  The owner returned home as crews were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under investigation by the Fire Department.  The blaze caused heavy damage to the home and contents.  The American Red Cross was contacted to assist a mother and three children displaced by the damage.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 3-Engines, 1-Ladder Truck, 1-Squad, 1-Medic Unit, 2-Battalion Chiefs, 1-Air & Light Unit, 2-Fire Investigators and 1-PIO
