EARLY MORNING BLAZE DAMAGES RESTAURANT IN SUWANEE

(Suwanee, Ga., May 12, 2016) – Firefighters responded on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 3:53a.m., to a report from a passerby of a fire at the Bombay Shack Indian Eatery, located in the 80 block of Horizon Drive, NE in Suwanee.  The blaze was brought under control by 4:30a.m.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the roof of an end restaurant suite on the left-side of a large multi-use shopping center.  Firefighters encountered intense flames in the kitchen area at the back of the building.  Initial crews quickly deployed attack hose lines to combat the blaze and protect adjoining businesses.  Firefighters forced entry inside a neighboring Income Tax Office to check for fire extension. Firefighters worked fast and were able to contain the flames to the restaurant.  The blaze caused heavy damage inside the restaurant and sent residual smoke throughout adjoining business suites.  The interior metal ceiling over the dining area collapsed, limiting firefighter’s access to the front part of the restaurant.  According to Fire Investigators, the blaze originated in the kitchen; however, the exact cause is still undetermined and is under investigation.

The restaurant and the other businesses within the shopping center were closed at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.  Firefighters and Fire Investigators were able to speak with employees who came to the restaurant this morning.  Fire trucks left the scene around 8:30a.m.
