FAMILY DISPLACED BY SNELLVILLE HOUSE FIRE
(Snellville, Ga., January 13, 2018) – Firefighters responded at 10:16 p.m. to multiple neighbors reporting a house fire in the 2400 block of Bankston Circle SW in unincorporated Snellville. Caller to 9-1-1 reported a house fire with smoke and flames visible.
Crews arrived on scene to find a single-story, single-family residence on a crawl space with heavy fire involvement in the rear of the home and through the roof. Immediate exposure protection was initiated for the house on the left side of the home. Multiple attack hose lines and an aerial apparatus were utilized to bring the blaze under control. Firefighters were able to make entry to complete extinguishment and conduct a search of the structure. The home appears to be a total loss. The homeowner was not home at the time of blaze. Red Cross assistance was declined and occupants are staying with friends in the area. No injuries were reported at the incident.
A Fire Investigator was requested to respond and assist with the origin and cause determination. The homeowner reported having a fire in the fireplace earlier this evening. The investigation indicates the fire originated in the area of the chimney chase.
Firefighters encourage all citizens to practice home fire safety, especially during the winter season. Be sure to install working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each bedroom. Develop a home escape plan and practice fire drills regularly. Check and maintain home heating appliances such as the furnace, fireplace and space heater.
