FIRE DAMAGES TWO CONDOMINIUMS IN PEACHTREE CORNERS

(Peachtree Corners, Ga., October 1, 2015) – Gwinnett County Firefighters responded on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 11:17a.m., to a report of a condominium fire on Holcomb Bridge Road, NW near Crooked Creek Road in Peachtree Corners.  The incident was declared under control by 11:52a.m.

Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the eaves of a two-story wood frame (4-unit) condominium building.  Firefighters deployed attack hose lines and made immediate entry to extinguish the fire and conduct a primary search.  Firefighters located a fire that was burning inside the wall between two adjoining condo units.  Crews had to pull much of the sheetrock in both units to expose smoldering wood members and to put the fire completely out.  The fire caused heavy charring to the wall and insulation.

The fire appears accidental and was caused when sparks from a saw-blade ignited the dust particles and insulation in the wall.  A contractor was doing renovation work and was cutting a hole in the wall at the time the fire erupted.

The two units affected are untenable until repairs can be made.  Occupants in the other two units of the building were allowed to return to their homes once the situation was brought under control.  There were no injuries reported.

EQUIPMENT AT THE SCENE INCLUDED: 4-Engines, 2-Ladder Trucks, 1-Squad, 1-Air & Light Unit, 1-Medic Unit, 2-Battalion Chiefs, 1-Deputy Chief, and 1-Fire Investigator.
