FIRE DESTROYS HOME ON HIRAM DAVIS ROAD IN LAWRENCEVILLE
(Lawrenceville, Ga., August 5, 2015) – Gwinnett County Firefighters responded on Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at 5:07p.m., to a report from a passerby of a house fire in the 1180 block of Hiram Davis Road, SE in Lawrenceville.
The caller reported smoke and flames showing at the time of the 9-1-1 call. The passerby and a neighbor knocked at the door to try and alert anyone who might be inside. Firefighters could see a heavy column of black smoke from a distance as they responded to the scene.
Crews arrived to find a single-family wood frame and brick house that was fully involved. They were also immediately met with a vehicle in the driveway that was engulfed in flames on the left-side of the house and radiant heat melting the vinyl exterior siding on the neighboring house on the right-side. Hot embers from the fire ignited the woods behind the house and scorched the trees. A steady breeze and a downed electrical service line in the front yard also challenged firefighters as they battled the blaze and protected exposures. Fire crews had to battle the blaze from outside (defensive mode) due to the magnitude of fire ad partial collapse. Firefighters flowed water from multiple hose lines and an aerial ladder device to control the flames.
The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under active investigation. The blaze destroyed the house and the SUV in the driveway and caused moderate damage to the siding on the exposure house.
