Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center - 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville

(Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 8, 2016) – The Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services will host a special 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, at 8:30 a.m.  The ceremony has become an annual event hosted by the department and is held at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial, located in the front parking lot of the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville.  The event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony provides an opportunity for public safety professionals, elected officials and members of the public to reflect upon the events of 9/11/01 that occurred at the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.  It’s important for the community to come together in a show of unity and support as the nation continues to heal and move forward as a resilient people.  The terrorist acts of 9/11/01, reminds our country of the challenges faced by emergency responders and citizens in a progressive and free society.

The 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony pays tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day and every day since that time.  We honor members of public safety, the military and civilians who either lost much or gave so much of themselves in order to help others.

 This year’s ceremony includes:

  • Presentation of colors and special wreath laying by a combined public safety honor guard from Gwinnett Fire, Gwinnett Police, Gwinnett Sheriff and Lawrenceville Police
  • Flag of Honor and Flag of Heroes by the Boy Scouts of America
  • Taps
  • Singing of the National Anthem
  • Keynote Speaker: 1st Lieutenant with the U.S. Army Reserves

We are excited about this year’s event and hope that members of the community will join us as we show our respect and unwavering support for those who responded on 9/11/01, as well as the men and women who serve and protect our community every single day.
