Firefighters responded at 11:34 a.m. to a report from a neighbor of a fire at 2400 Block of Luke Court, NE in unincorporated Buford. The caller to 9-1-1 reported seeing flames coming from the residence.

Fire crews arrived on scene to find the residence well-involved with a burn patient sitting outside. The burn patient, an adult male, was transported emergency status to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta with potentially life threatening burns. There were no other occupants found inside the home and no further injuries reported. Firefighters found three dogs deceased inside the home. A fourth dog survived and was outside the home; the dog is ok and was reunited with a family member at the scene.

On arrival, firefighters were met with heavy fire coming from the split-level home. Crews deployed attack hose lines and knocked down the bulk of the fire. After the fire was knocked down, crews transitioned to an interior attack. Primary search proved negative for any additional victims.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and under active investigation. Additional information will be sent by the Fire PIO when available. The name of the injured victim is not being released due to Federal Patient Privacy Laws known as HIPPA.

With October being Fire Prevention Month and the onset of colder weather, firefighters encourage all residents to check and maintain working smoke alarms on every level of the home and in each bedroom. Develop a home fire escape plan and practice exit drills regularly. Now is the time to have home heating appliances serviced to keep your family safe during the winter months.
