REPORTED EXPLOSION BUILDING A. GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE 1000 UNVERSITY CENTER LANE

At 7:41am, Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services were dispatched to a fire alarm at Building A on the Georgia Gwinnett College campus. On arrival nothing was showing and the building had been evacuated by staff and Georgia Gwinnett College Police.  There was no smoke or fire located in the building. While preparing to return to service, firefighters encountered some type of explosion that came from a women’s restroom. On scene units requested additional resources and found a female patient with burns and potential blast injuries. The patient is not a student and works for the food service contractor on campus. She suffered serious injuries and is expected to survive. Firefighters performed a search of the area and did not locate any other victims and all students are safe. Classes are continuing in the other buildings on campus. No fire damage has been reported.

Gwinnett Fire, Georgia Gwinnett College officials along with multiple law enforcement and public utility agencies are working to determine the source of the explosion.
