Gwinnett County Firefighters have been busy this evening responding to a number of storm related incidents in the southwest part of the county.  The department operated under the “Emergency Operations Plan” for dispatched calls due to the storm.  Units began responding to storm related incidents at about 8:00 p.m.  A total of 97 calls were dispatched to units from 8:00 p.m. to 10:15 p.m.  The increased call volume subsided shortly after 10 p.m., as storms moved away from the county.  There were no injuries reported as a result of the storm.

Fire Department Command Staff monitored call volume and weather conditions and communicated with Officials from the Gwinnett Office of Emergency Management.  Gwinnett DOT was contacted to assist with clearing debris from the roadway caused by falling trees and tree limbs.

An extra Engine was placed in-service at 4 p.m. today to assist with potential weather related incidents.  Fire Inspectors were also called in to standby at a few wires down to relieve firefighting equipment for emergency response.  

There were several reports of live wires down and trees or tree limbs that blocked roadways.

• South Rockbridge Road, SW at North Deshong in Stone Mountain.  There were no injuries reported.

  REPORTED HOUSE FIRE:

• 2316 block of Stone Drive, SW in Lilburn.  Crews found a small fire in the gutter from live wires down.  The fire was contained to the gutter on the exterior of the home with slight extension inside the house.
