SUWANEE HOME A TOTAL LOSS AFTER OVERNIGHT FIRE

(Suwanee, Ga., July 28, 2015) – Gwinnett County Firefighters responded on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at 2:38a.m., to a report of a house fire in the 4000 block of Riversong Drive, NW in Suwanee.  The caller reported the back deck engulfed in flames and fire quickly spreading inside the house.

Crews arrived to find the two-story wood frame and brick house fully involved.  Heavy flames were moving throughout the house; and were already venting from the center of the roof when the first fire trucks arrived.  Firefighters obtained a verbal “all-clear” form the homeowner and deployed attack hose lines to combat the blaze.  Crews were immediately met with flames threatening the neighboring houses on either side.  Fire crews flowed water from an aerial master stream device and multiple hand lines to control the fire and protect the exposures.  Radiant heat caused extensive damage to the exterior siding on the neighboring house to the left and slight melting damage to an attic vent on the neighboring house to the right.  The fire caused heavy damage to the home and the structure is considered a total loss.  The exact cause of the fire is currently undetermined and is under active investigation by the fire department.

The occupants, 2-adults, were home asleep at the time and were awakened by a glow coming from the back of the house.  They discovered the deck ablaze and escaped unharmed.  There were no injuries reported.  The Red Cross was contacted to provide assistance for the displaced residents.  See the below photo sent by the Gwinnett Fire-PIO.
