(Lawrenceville, Ga., July 1, 2015) – Firefighters responded to the following weather related incidents as a strong thunderstorm moved through the area Wednesday evening.

GAS LEAK OUTSIDE:

Firefighters responded at 6:18p.m., to a report of a natural gas leak outside behind a shopping plaza at 3083 block of Breckinridge Boulevard, NW in Duluth.  Crews found a tree that fell and hit the gas meter for the building.  The tree cracked the top of the meter and caused a slight gas leak.  Firefighters were able to cut the gas supply off to the building and requested Atlanta Gas Light to respond.  There were no injuries reported and no damage to the building.  Employees and patrons in the plaza were temporarily evacuated.  The scene was under control and the leak stopped at 6:34p.m. 

TREE DOWN IN ROADWAY:

Firefighters responded at 6:27p.m., to a report of a tree down in the roadway on Round Road, SE near New Hope Road in Grayson.  Crews were able to assist with removing the tree and clearing the roadway.  There were no injuries reported. 

TREE AND POWER LINE DOWN:

Firefighters responded at 6:14 p.m., to a report of a tree that fell and pulled down a residential electrical service line in the 1500 block of Pinehurst Road, SW in Grayson.  There is damage to the power pole and a transformer on the pole.  Walton EMC was requested to respond.  Occupants in the nearby home were advised to avoid the downed line.  There were no injuries reported.

TREE DOWN ON A HOUSE:

Firefighters responded at 6:46p.m., to a report of a tree down on a house in the 3800 block of Sugarbrook Drive, SW in Lawrenceville.  Crews found a tree down on one house and a second nearby tree down on another house.  Occupants were home at the time and were not injured.  Occupants in one of the houses remained inside the house to wait for responding fire crews due to the rain and lightning.  Crews found a tree leaning on the house at both locations.  The trees were leaning on the roofs with tree limbs that punctured the roof and penetrated the ceiling material inside.  The damage is considered minor-to-moderate in nature.  There are no injuries reported.
