UPDATE #1: FATAL HOUSE FIRE

(This update provided by the Gwinnett Fire PIO on 6/28/17 at 9:57 p.m.) According to Fire Investigators, the fatal fire is still undetermined and is under investigation.  The fire appears to have started in the formal living room on the front-right side of the home.  There are a number of potential ignition sources that Fire Investigators are unable to rule out at this point.  The blaze does not appear to be suspicious.

The victim is an adult female, age -75 and was an occupant of the home, where she lived with her husband.  Her body was located in the master bedroom on the back left-side of the house.  Firefighters say that her injuries are consistent with the fire: however, the exact cause of death will be determined by the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.  Please check with the medical examiner for cause of death determination and release of the name.

An on-duty Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Deputy was first to arrive at the burning home and was unable to go inside due to the smoke and flames.  This fire is a tragic situation and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Additional information will be sent by the Fire-PIO when available

Firefighters responded on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 2:50 p.m., to a neighbor report of a house fire in the 1500 block of Brandon Square, NW in (unincorporated) Lawrenceville.  The neighbor reported a lot of smoke and fire coming from the house and that someone was possibly still inside.

Crews arrived to find a single-story, wood-frame house on a slab that was fully involved.  There was heavy smoke and flames pouring from the house as crews deployed attack hose lines to make entry for rescue and fire control.  Firefighters tried to enter the home on the unburned side near the garage, but were forced to back-out momentarily because of intense fire conditions and collapse of the roof.  Crews flowed water from multiple hose lines and an aerial ladder device to knock-down the bulk of the flames from outside before going back in to conduct a primary search and complete extinguishment.  During the search, crews located the body of an adult female deceased inside the home.  There was no one else found inside and no other injuries were reported.  The house is a total loss due to the fire.  Radiant heat from the blaze melted the vinyl siding on a neighboring house to the right.

Fire Investigators are at the scene working to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire.  The body of the deceased victim will be turned over to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification and cause of death determination.  The name of the deceased victim is not being released at this time.  Family members arrived at the scene this afternoon and are talking with Fire Investigators.
